So I had heard much about it... Best Steak joint in the DC area, no frills, nothing "well-done" with only the finest cuts. On Tuesday, I finally had a chance to find out if Big Red knew what he was talking about. So the two of us - along with Rainbow Warrior and POTUS, hit Ray's the Steaks in Arlington.
Ray's first impression is not impressive. It is in a tiny strip mall and looks like a cafeteria inside. Ray's second impression was even less impressive... no scotch. Now, that in and of itself should have forced me to leave the place. How can you have steak without scotch. But I persevered and decided I needed to keep going. The third impression was much better.
Since this seemed like a significant event, I thought I should go all out, so I ordered the 28 oz (at least) Cowboy Bone-in Ribeye. The guy sitting at the table next to us tried it - and to his credit finished about half of it. I should add, I think this guy outweighed me 2 - 1. But my three partners that evening offered me a challenge I couldn't refuse, so I went for it.
POTUS will post the picture, and since a picture is worth a thousand words, I'll let it speak for me. But let's just say that I finished it. And every bite was good. I mean, it was really good. It was a little rare for my taste, but it didn't matter. As bare bones as Ray's is, it is definitely worth the trip. I'll just have to bring my own scotch next time.
